わが助けは、天と地を造られた主から来る。……主はあなたを守る者。（詩篇121:2,5）
詩篇121篇には信仰者への約束のことばが三つあります。第一に、神は私たちの境遇を超越し、支配されます。「主はあなたの足の動かされるのをゆるされない」（詩篇121:3）。私たちを取り囲む状況や押し寄せる力を制御する力は私たちにはありません。しかし神はそれに縛られることなく、そうした状況のただ中で私たちを守ることがおできになります。神を知り、神に信頼する人は、神を信じない人々の道につきまとう不確実性や不安定さに悩まされる必要がありません。
第二に、神は時間に拘束されるような方ではありません。「あなたを守る者はまどろむことがない」（詩篇121:3）。この方は永遠から永遠まで存在されますから、神を疲れさせるようなものはなく、神はまどろむこともなく、眠ることもなく、睡眠の必要を覚えることもありません。神の内には不足感もないのです。（以下省略）

There are three words of promise for the believer in Psalm 121. First, God transcends and reigns over our circumstances: “He will not let your foot slip” (Ps. 121:3). Circumstances and forces over which we have little control surround you and me, but God is caught in none of these and can protect us in the midst of them. The person who knows and trusts God does not have to fear the insecurities and uncertainties that dog the path of the unbeliever.
Second, God is not caught in the exigencies of time: “He who watches over you will not slumber” (Ps. 121:3). He is the eternal One, so nothing wearies him. He neither slumbers nor sleeps. He has no need for sleep. There is no deficiency in him.（omitted below）
